Our History

“The provision for the vision is IN the vision!”

The dream began on Saturday night in November 1973 at Mason’s Temple COGIC in Memphis, TN. From that dream our pastor knew the Lord had called him into a greater ministry. He then shared his dream with the late Elder W. B. Foster, who encouraged him to begin the work that the Lord had called him to do.

Community began in a little dilapidated building on a hill. There were seven adults members, including the pastor and wife. Those members were: Sis. R. Foster, Sis. E. Butler, Sis. D. Harrison, Sis. B. Brumfield, and Sis. J. Foster.

When the Lord moved on the Pastor’s heart to start a work in the old-run-down building, He also moved on the heart of Mrs. Sadie McCoy to allow us to rent the building at $10.00 per month. After seeing the true condition of the building, Pastor Muse wondered how the Lord could give him a place such as this to do a work in. There were no bathrooms, no water, and the building served as a dwelling place for rats, lizards, bees, scorpions and wasps. Our 1st Lady, Missionary Muse, and 5 other members encouraged Pastor Muse to press on.

Our motto became, “LORD WORK IT OUT!”

With a hammer and a pound of nails, the Lord began to work things out. Brother J. Butler, Elder J. Foster, P. Muse, E. Muse and Pastor Muse constructed the loft, floor and pulpit. They also rewired the building and made wooden benches.

The night prior to the 1st sermon in our building Sis. R. Magee prophesied that we would have to build a larger sanctuary. Her prophecy soon came to pass, and since that night we’ve continued to grow.
On July 28, 1974 we dedicated our building. On September 25, 1980, we marched to our new sanctuary. On March 23, 1986, we rededicated our renovated sanctuary.

The dream that our pastor experienced in November, 1973 at Mason’s Temple continues to unfold as we worship today. Through the prayers and support of members and many friends, the Lord has richly blessed Community COGIC. Certainly, we have witnessed a miracle, because as we look back, we are reminded of the words of the old Negro tune:”LOOK WHERE HE BROUGHT US FROM.”

As God’s children we need to understand that to prepare a church, a man of God is needed. God sent Moses to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt. Therefore, to deliver, lead and teach them, once again a man of God is used by God. Our pastor, Supt. Daniel Muse, Sr. has yet another vision; a vision that seemed impossible at the time. But, when the Lord speaks through His anointed one, things begin to happen for the people of God once again. “Where there is no vision the people perish.”

A plan was set forth. We worked toward the vision that was mandated by God. There were many hours of sleepless nights, wrestling over what God wanted our pastor to tell His flock. Because “the people had a mind to work,” the plan was successful. WE can truly say that our pastor is sent by God for a man who is sent by God doesn’t fail.

Our work began with pledges in January of 1997. The Lord spoke to our pastor and our church family made financial commitments. Within a year’s time, we’d saved over $100,000. Our foundation was poured for our new sanctuary in November 1998. We marched around the walls, prayed, song, and prophesied of the things the Lord was going to do in our future. The Lord has already begun some of these prophecies. The 1st beam was placed on March 29, 1999. In January 2001, we dedicated and entered our new sanctuary.

Our history continues with the development of our Recreation Park and other property which consists over 20 acres and is placed in the middle of the community.

We thank God for His divine favor, and the leadership of our pastor and his wife.

Today our church membership exceeds 400, and our church serves as the “HEALING” ground for many.

To God be the glory for the things HE has done!
